Common Q&A's About Our Mobile Orthotics Service
Discover answers to your most pressing questions about our custom orthotics and at-home services.
Do I need to buy special shoes for custom orthotics?
How long does it take to manufacture the orthotics?
Is this service safe? Who will be coming into my home?
Your visit is carried out personally by Francis Connor, a DBS-checked, registered and insured Osteopath and Chartered Physiotherapist. Francis also holds the voluntary Welfare Officer position at Swinton Judo Club, listed on the British Judo Council website — a safeguarding role built on the same standards of trust we bring to every home visit. You’re always welcome to have a family member or carer present.
How long does each home visit take?
Your initial assessment and 3D scanning visit typically takes around 60 minutes. The second visit, for delivery and fitting of your custom orthotics, usually takes around 30 minutes. We never rush a clinical assessment, you’ll have our full attention throughout.
Is the £533 package covered by insurance, or can I claim it back?
Many private health insurance policies and Health Cash Plans cover custom orthotics assessments, and if the orthotics are required for a workplace reason, they may also be claimable as a work-related or medical expense. We’ll provide a full invoice with clinical details for you to submit, we’d recommend checking your specific policy or with your accountant to confirm.
Can I get custom orthotics on the NHS instead?
The NHS does provide orthotics, but usually only via GP or podiatry referral for more serious medical conditions, with typically long waiting times and less customisation than a private 3D scanned device. Our home-visit service is a private option designed for anyone who wants a fully bespoke result without the wait, or who finds getting to a clinic (or an NHS appointment) difficult in the first place.
What if I need to rearrange my appointment?
We understand health and mobility can be unpredictable. Just call or message us on 01204 522133 as early as you can and we’ll find you a new date, no awkward conversations, no penalty for genuine circumstances outside your control.
Do you cover my area?
Our standard £533 package covers a 10-mile radius of our Radcliffe clinic, including Bury, Bolton, Prestwich, Whitefield, and Worsley. We also travel further across Greater Manchester with a small travel surcharge to reflect the extra mileage and time. Not sure if you’re covered? Just get in touch and we’ll confirm.
