Let’s explore what sciatica is, its common causes and symptoms, and the treatment options available to you.

What is it?

Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which extends from the lower back through the hips and buttocks and down each leg. The pain typically follows the course of the sciatic nerve and can vary in intensity, ranging from mild discomfort to severe and debilitating pain.

Sciatica is not a medical diagnosis or condition in itself but rather a symptom of an underlying issue, such as a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, or piriformis syndrome.

What causes sciatica

Common causes of

Sciatica

  1. Herniated Disc: A herniated or bulging disc in the spine can compress or irritate the nearby sciatic nerve, leading to sciatica symptoms.

  2. Spinal Stenosis: Narrowing of the spinal canal due to age-related changes or degenerative conditions can put pressure on the sciatic nerve roots, causing sciatica pain.

  3. Piriformis Syndrome: The piriformis muscle, located in the buttocks, can become tight or inflamed, compressing the sciatic nerve and causing pain.

  4. Trauma or Injury: A traumatic event, such as a fall or car accident, can injure the spine or surrounding tissues, leading to sciatica symptoms.

Knowledgeable practitioner who was able to look at what was the underlying issues related to my back pain, rather than just treating the acute incident. Easy to book and pay online

I turned up quite desperate and in a lot of pain, Francis was able to improve my situation from the first visit. 2 trapped nerves in my back and hip I was definitely at my worst but was treated with care, dignity and patience. I wasn’t fobbed off with poxy exercises to do, my treatment was hands on, my body manipulated to ease pressure on the nerves which had me pretty much pain free after a few visits. I still see Francis but my appointments arnt as regular now, my appointments are more preventative. Would recommend highly 👍

When my wife saw Francis for the first time she could barely walk up the stairs to his practice. She left walking normally and was pain free within three visits. We cannot thank him enough. Highly recommended.

I visited Francis a couple of times to treat a hip problem, I ended up having a 3d gait analysis on another visit, it proved to be really helpful and informative. He was really friendly and extremely knowledgeable at what he does. I would definitely visit again and would recommend him to everyone.
